What are D’cadre’s container housing like? #OurPromise

Container houses are built in different styles, using different materials depending on local designs, weather conditions and building standards. However, D’cadre applies these guiding principles for house-building worldwide:

AffordabilityThroughout the world, the cost of houses varies from as little as US$1000 in some developing countries to an average of US$59,324 in the United States. D’cadre aims to work with various governments to build container houses are affordable for low-income families because there is no profit included in the sale price and no interest charged on the mortgage.

D’cadre upholds integrity and has an unwavering commitment to create and preserve affordable housing. The biggest incentive and advantage for container houses is that they are very affordable. Getting a used shipping container and converting it into a home is far less expensive than getting a home in the cheapest place of the city. The fundamental components of a container home are pretty basic, using one or two shipping containers, insulation, flooring, plumbing, electrical wiring, and add in the homey amenities and we are set.

The labour of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and a no-profit, no-interest loan make it affordable for low-income communities around the world to purchase our container houses.

Simplicity ConceptD’cadre’s container houses are modestly sized – large enough for the homeowner family’s needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum. Contrary to what it looks like, it is extremely easy to execute a container home design. All you need is a shipping container delivered to the site, arranging the containers to resemble a traditional floor plan, cut away the steel to create windows and rooms and install some beams to ensure structural integrity.

Safety and Quality AssuranceD’cadre uses high quality new and used containers to construct the container housing. Our trained staff supervises the construction process and educate volunteers and partner families. House designs reflect the local climate and culture.

Shipping containers are perfect for people who live in natural disaster hot spots. It is evident from the photos we have seen of hurricane Katrina. In the photos it shows wooden homes which have been completely annihilated by Katrina, however lying on top of the wood are completely intact shipping containers.

Shipping containers are designed to be stacked up to nine high when fully loaded with over 26 tons of cargo in each container. It’s not surprising these containers stood up to the test of Katrina and many other natural disasters.

Environment friendlyShipping containers are left abandoned every year. By using them for our low cost housing project, we repurposing steel and giving it a new life. In addition, our recycling cuts down on other resources and materials like sand, concrete or bricks.

Further more we try to incorporate D’cadre’s solar panel projects to boost eco-friendliness by installing solar panels or high-quality insulation.
